Sounding Better on the Phone:
You can make a better impression on the phone by opening your mouth
wider as you speak and moving your lips more.
Most people don't move their lips enough, which flattens the tone of
their voice.
Do not squeeze the phones between your neck and shoulder. This tenses
your throat and makes you talk from one side of your mouth.
Speak in your lower vocal range. Telephones transmit lower pitches
more truly than higher tones.
Speak clearly and directly into the mouthpiece Avoid smoking and/or
eating while interviewing.
Put warmth in your voice, be enthusiastic and assertive Your #1 goal
is to get a personal interview.
Eliminate background noises, if possible.
Confirm pronunciation and spelling of interviewer's name and title,
ask permission to address by first name.
Use correct grammar.
Let the company interviewer do most of the talking.
Answer questions in complete sentences using fact and examples -
Avoid yes/no answers.
Ask questions, have a list of questions at your fingertips i.e.
company revenues.
Discuss job responsibilities.
Take notes.
Salary or benefits should not be discussed during the initial
telephone interview.
